CAASPP testing season began with a special morning assembly honoring the students who received standards met (green) and standards exceeded (yellow) on last year’s CAASPP Test. Each student recognized received a special medal with the corresponding color for standards met or standards exceeded. Three very special students earned perfect scores on the English Language Arts (ELA) and/or Math test last year. Two students received perfect scores on both ELA and Math and one student received a perfect score on Math. These students were honored with a special “Supreme Scottie Scholar” trophy in addition to their medals.

On Monday, May 9th, Marshall students began this year’s CAASPP Testing. The theme for testing this year was the Olympics. On the first day, students were led through a cheer tunnel made up of kindergarten through second grade students. The kindergarten, first and second grade students held up banners and cheered for the testing students. Each class made a banner showing a motivational word for testing. As the students walked through the tunnel, the Olympic theme music played and, at the end of the tunnel, students received a gold medal as a reminder to “Go for the Gold.”

At the beginning of each day of testing, students were shown the “Marshall Motivational Minute” video. These videos were made by sixth grade students and spotlighted the word and color of the day. For example, blue represented perseverance. Each video also gave a few test taking strategies and reminded students to do their best. After the video was shown, students received a colored bracelet that matched the color discussed in the video. The entire school supported the students testing by wearing clothes that matched the color of the day. Also, the campus was decorated with colored ribbons each day and, by the end of testing, the Olympic colors were displayed all over the campus.
