Dr. Jonas E. Salk Latest News

On Friday, May 6, 2016 students from Salk's Special Day Classes in grades 1st-6th attended The California State University, Fullerton – Kathleen E. Faley Memorial Special Games it's the largest event of its kind held in the county.  This is a day for developmentally disabled students from schools in Orange County to come and participate in a day of non-competitive games each year. This year over 2,500 special athletes were paired with a high school volunteer buddy for the day to make the day a rewarding experience! Some of the sporting events included: Football Throw, Basketball Hoop Toss, Soccer Goal Kicks, T-Balls, Bean Bag Toss, 50 Yard Fun Dash, Volleyball, Frisbee Toss, Whiffle Ball and more.  There was also other special activities for the students such as: Animal Balloons, Fire Trucks, Police Squad Cars, Magical Clowns, Live Band, Music-Man Melodies, and Lunch served.  All special athletes are winners! Each athlete went home with a 1st place blue ribbon, game-day certificate and commemorative T-shirt.

The TK and Kinder students at Dr. Jonas E. Salk School enjoyed a wonderful showing of puppetry from Puppets and Players Little Theatre. The program is a part of The Center's Arts Teach from the Segerstrom Center for the Arts that provides a wide variety of arts, performing arts, and music enrichment. Salk students had the opportunity to see Hans Christian Anderson's Thumbelina come to life with classical marionettes and hand puppets.
