The SaRang Community Church in Anaheim provided fifty three students a two day enrichment camp during Thanksgiving week and a festive banquet for themselves and their family members. During the full day camp, students were provided small group social experiences, time to make crafts and an outing in the community. The theme for this year’s camp was “My future begins with hope.” Volunteers of the church also provided a hearty home cooked breakfast, a bag lunch and snacks throughout the day. Eight former Magnolia School District students provided leadership during the camp. These eight students participated in the camps when they were in elementary school. Now they are high school students using their leadership skills and giving back to the community. The banquet held Wednesday night before Thanksgiving included entertainment and a traditional turkey dinner. Nearly 300 students, family members and friends attended the banquet and each family was given a gift bag as they left. During the banquet, special recognition was given to Leslie Ruiz, a Magnolia High School senior, who participated in the first SaRang camp program seven years ago, has attended every camp since, and has been become a leader in the program. Over 100 church members volunteered to make this camp and banquet possible. SaRang Community Church has been in partnership with Magnolia School District for seven years, providing Summer and Thanksgiving camp experiences for Magnolia students. The camp is no charge to the students and is provided through church support and private donations. Mr. Bailey, Executive Director Student Services, was able to attend the banquet and present Pastor Roh, senior pastor of SaRang Community Church, a plaque of appreciation for all the SaRang community has done and continues to provide the students of Magnolia School District.
