Dr. Peter Marshall School has a place for kids who have a nose for news – school news, that is. It’s the Scottie Chronicle. The school newspaper was started four years ago and is led by Ms. Lehrer, a third grade teacher. The club meets every other week and offers students a chance to put their writing, art, and photography talents to work. Students get a by-line or art credit when their work is published.
The newspaper is published at the beginning of each school year and each following trimester. Students in all grade levels can contribute to the paper. Interested student reporters audition by bringing writing or art samples to Ms. Lehrer, their club advisor.
As junior reporters, the students tell about campus events such as field trips, PTA events, grade-level projects, and new programs. Recently, for example, they’ve written about the remodeled front office, the school garden, Outdoor Science School, and holiday art projects. Parents of the reporters occasionally attend club meetings to lend their support as well.
