Hello Everyone,

As we begin our 121st year in enriching the lives of students here in the Magnolia School District, we have much to be proud of and much to look forward to.

This past summer we had over 900 students enrolled in our Summer Programs including all of our incoming 3rd grade students who participated in our inaugural Summer STEM Academy. We continued with our Summer Academy for our Long-Term English Learners and our Extended School Year program. Another new program was our Magnolia School District STEM Certification that was provided to many of our staff members. Three of our staff members participated in our Leadership Intern Program and all three did a wonderful job in assisting in the supervision of our students and the management of our school sites.

We are excited about our work with OpTerra, an energy savings company that has also worked with many nearby school districts. We are currently in the process of discovering new methods to save energy while also cutting costs.

Thanks to the Magnolia Educational Enrichment Foundation (MEEF) we will be holding our first 5k run on October 8, 2016. This will be a great opportunity for our students to participate in a healthy activity and it will also be a wonderful time for all of us to get together for an outstanding cause.

As we begin the 2016-17 school year we have a few themes that we would like to use to guide us through the year. One is a way of thinking developed by Carol Dweck that is known as Mindset. Dr. Dweck explains how we either have a Fixed Mindset or a Growth Mindset. For example, a person with a Fixed Mindset says, “I cannot do this.” While a person with a Growth Mindset says, “I cannot do this yet.” We also want to do our best in creating “E-Ticket Experiences” for our students, our staff members, our parents, and our community members. We have been focusing on Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, and Critical Thinking for the past several years. We would like to add Character to that list so that we have 5 C’s to focus on.

Most importantly, we want to support all of you in continuing our focus on improving outcomes for All Students.

Thank you all for the great work you do and I wish you all a successful and satisfying school year.
