Across the district, schools are creating meaningful experiences that strengthen learning and community. Students were welcomed by Anaheim Police during a special morning visit, one campus earned national recognition as a 2026 America’s Best Schools Award finalist, and families joined a hands-on math workshop to better support learning at home. Other highlights included a Father-Daughter Dance, student-led literacy fundraisers, Kindness Week activities, a “Lunch With a Loved One” event, a Kids Heart Challenge promoting wellness and service, and a solar cooker project that brought science and engineering to life.]]></description>

Dr. Jonas E. Salk School – Featured the Big Buddies program, fostering social and emotional growth through mentorship, reading activities, and fun projects between younger and older students.

Dr. Peter Marshall Elementary – Showcased the PTA’s role in organizing community-building events like Board Game Night, a Valentine’s Dance, and Trunk or Treat.

Esther L. Walter School – Introduced the new school playground, emphasizing the joy and physical benefits it brings to students.

					<description><![CDATA[Graduating high school seniors from Savannah High School, Magnolia High School and Oxford Academy visited their former Magnolia School District elementary schools on Monday, May 22, 2023.  Seniors entered the schools accompanied by the marching band and paraded through their former schools.  Students cheered as the seniors walked through, giving them high-fives and clapping their hands.  Students and teachers made signs for the seniors and congratulated the graduates.  This tradition provides our elementary students an insight of what they can accomplish and our teachers were beyond excited to see their former students in their caps and gowns.]]></description>

					<description><![CDATA[Recently, the California Reading Coalition released the California Reading Report Card and the Magnolia School District was ranked 16th in the State and 1st in Orange County for our Socio-economically Disadvantaged (SED) and Hispanic Subgroup students in 3rd Grade. Third Grade is the first year of State Testing. The scores were based on the last State Test Scores available in English Language Arts (2017-18 and 2018-19).]]></description>

Students across the district were chosen to receive the colorful backpacks.  The backpacks were filled with binders, pencils, crayons, markers and other necessary supplies for school.  The Rotary Club of Anaheim members hopes that Magnolia School District students have a successful school year!]]></description>

					<description><![CDATA[The City of Anaheim has generously included the Magnolia School District in their TreePower Program. Eventually all schools in the District will receive trees from the City. The goal is to create shade and reduce energy costs while also helping the environment. The first trees were planted this summer at Dr. Albert Schweitzer school. Anaheim City Council Member, Jose Diaz presented the trees to Principal Marcy Chant and a group of fifth grade students. Magnolia School District Board Members, Barbara Clendineng and Connie Martin were also present for the ceremonial tree planting.]]></description>

When we transitioned from virtual learning to our hybrid model last April, students and staff were very happy to return to school. We added additional custodial, health, counseling, food services and instructional support to ensure our schools are safe and the needs of our students and staff are met.]]></description>

Last week, students were given a Friday challenge of “Who could build the tallest structure?” The students and their families created structures using household materials. Once constructed, they measured and submitted the height of their structures to the classroom teacher. The winner with the tallest structure received the honor of selecting the Fun Friday songs to be played in their weekly class Zoom meeting. 				<title><![CDATA[Magnolia School District Continues its Hard Work to Serve the Needs of Our Students and Families]]></title>

					<description><![CDATA[Magnolia School District continues its partnership with Giving Children Hope, an organization that delivers weekly backpacks to some of our District families.  Normally, these backpacks are filled with food and put together by members of their organization and then distributed to Magnolia School District families.  

During these unprecedented times, Giving Children Hope is able to deliver the food to our District, but is not able to fill the backpacks. We are very proud of our teachers, who step in and volunteer their time to fill these backpacks for our families each week.  The District is so thankful to have such amazing and dedicated employees.  The teachers response to the call for help was so overwhelming some of the volunteers had to be turned away.  Teachers help assemble the food bags and distribute them to our families.]]></description>

					<description><![CDATA[Lord Baden-Powell Elementary School students continue to inspire kindness around their community.  This year student council members, with the leadership of Mrs. Katrina Barkley and Mrs. Stacy Bugaren, made lasting connections with some of the residents of Brookdale Senior Living in Anaheim.  Mrs. Barkley worked as our liaison to Brookdale, arranging visits and coordinating students and staff. Mrs. Bugaren managed the Student Council students to support visits to BP and arranged special projects that were delivered to Brookdale. Their collaborative work is the backbone of this partnership.]]></description>

In the Third through Fifth Grade Division, Aanya Shah, fifth grade student, received Honorable Mention for her colored pencil drawing entitled “Flower Vase.”   In the same division, Bahista Khairkhwah, fifth grade student, received Fifth Place for her painting, “Landscape,” which was done in oil pastel. This is an excerpt from a poem entitled “Only an Earth,” which was read by sixth grade student, Maanya Arora, at the Earth Day poetry reading on Monday, April 22, at the Anaheim Central Library.  Anaheim students were invited by our Poet Laureate of Anaheim, Mr. Grant Hier, to read their original poems inspired by Earth Day. This event was made possible through a partnership between the Magnolia School District and the Disney Resort. Snap the Gap’s mission is to instill every girl (aged 10-12) in the United States with the confidence and skills needed to pursue STEM in college and careers. 					<description><![CDATA[Magnolia School District continues to thrive in the area of Technology.  Recently teams from  Dr. Albert Schweitzer, Robert M. Pyles STEM Academy, and Mattie Lou Maxwell Schools participated in the FIRST Lego League Robotics competition.  Each team had to design a robot to perform various tasks on the competition board.  The teams scored points based on how many tasks they completed as well as their individual robot design.  In the robot game Maxwell School placed 7th, Schweitzer was only one point behind in 8th and Pyles’ first-year team had a good showing at 17th.]]></description>

As part of this project, Schweitzer scholars engaged in a roundtable discussion with Food Services Director Brendan Shields and Food Services Manager Odezza Larida about preparing to travel into space and what food would be needed.  The expert Food Services team answered students’ questions and provided valuable insights on how to plan a menu that met the nutrition requirements for space travel.]]></description>

					<description><![CDATA[On Friday, October 19, Juliette Low students, families and staff enjoyed the largest annual Harvest Carnival to date. The carnival featured a wide variety of game booths; a puppy petting zoo; cake walk; face painting; a cartoonist, who provided caricatures of participants; necklace engravers; and an obstacle course.  Raffles took place throughout the afternoon for entertainment at a variety of venues, as well as items such as a foldable bicycle.  Participants enjoyed feasting on taco dinners as well as the standard carnival foods, such as hotdogs, nachos, cotton candy, popcorn, and shaved ice.]]></description>

				<title><![CDATA[Magnolia School District’s Dual Immersion Program Continues to Expand]]></title>

					<description><![CDATA[In a few short years, Magnolia’s Spanish Dual Immersion program has grown from just 55 students to almost 380.  The program began in 2012 with just two kindergarten classes and now it has expanded to all grade levels through 6th grade.

Magnolia has implemented the 90/10 model of instruction which means that in kindergarten the instruction is received 90% in Spanish and 10% in English. English instruction increases by 10% each year so by fourth grade, the instruction is presented 50% in each language.]]></description>

					<description><![CDATA[Juliette Low School of the Arts has had the privilege of being chosen to participate in the Lang Lang International Music Foundation Keys of Inspiration program.  The music foundation was started by world-famous concert piano player Lang Lang. Keys of Inspiration is a national music intervention program, focusing on helping schools with limited resources.  The Lang Lang International Music Foundation teamed with Roland, and The Royal Conservatory of Music to build a state of the art piano lab with 31 brand new keyboards at Juliette Low School of the Arts.]]></description>

					<description><![CDATA[Magnolia School District continues a strong partnership with the Anaheim YMCA and the Anaheim Achieves after-school program.  As part of this partnership, the District has been offering a no-cost supper program to the students for the last 4 years.  Hot, nutritious meals are prepared in each of the school’s kitchens and serve an average of 600 nightly meals to the Anaheim Achieves participants.   The student favorites are Beef and Cheese Lasagna and Cheese Pizza.]]></description>

					<description><![CDATA[Over the last year, Magnolia School District has been working with ENGIE Services U.S. to develop and deliver a comprehensive energy efficiency program. This includes large-scale infrastructure improvements, including reducing energy consumption through efficient lighting, thermostat, and air-conditioning systems, as well as providing clean on-site renewable solar power by installing solar shade structures on all District campuses and our district office and warehouse. In addition, students are receiving enriched educational experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) through a hands-on learning program related to energy and the environment.]]></description>

Students from Baden-Powell and Salk Elementary Schools were featured in the Opening Ceremony of the VSA Festival Saturday, April 21st.  Two groups of students, supported by their teachers and other staff members, performed for the large crowd of parents, community partners and the general public at the Mall. Recently, Jake was awarded the Disney Dreamers and Doers Luminary Award and $3,000 to donate to a non-profit organization of his choosing. 					<description><![CDATA[For the last five years, the month of May has signaled the time for the annual MEEF Food and Fun Festival.  This year was the biggest festival to date!  Gourmet food trucks had a fantastic food variety for sale, from Flying Hawaiian Sliders to Korean BBQ Beef Bowls. 

Live performances included musical selections by members of the Advanced Magnolia School District Band, Patriotic songs by 2nd Graders from across the district, Juliette Low School of the Arts student’s reenacted parts of their yearly musical, Disney School Polynesian Dancers showed their skill, and Hula and Flamenco Dancers provided a splendid finale to the student performances.]]></description>

					<description><![CDATA[On April 24th Walt Disney School had the opportunity to participate in the Wyland Foundation Clean Water Mobile Center, a 1,000 sq. ft. Learning exhibition on wheels.   The mobile center features a 40-person movie theater, computer model simulations, a running river, and models the effects of rain falling over a city landscape.]]></description>

					<description><![CDATA[Friday, February 23rd, 2018 was a memorable day for Walter School’s 6th-grade student Jazmine Alvarado.  Jazmine is this year’s winner of the “Design a Ford” contest. The contest is a partnership between OC GRIP and Ford Motor Company where students get to design the color scheme for the OC Grip Vehicle.  Jazmine’s design was picked among over 140 entries across 14 Orange County Schools.]]></description>

				<title><![CDATA[Magnolia School District Generates Sustainable Energy for Student Success]]></title>

					<description><![CDATA[In January 2017, Magnolia Superintendent Dr. Frank Donavan and the Board of Trustees recommended moving the District in a renewable energy, greener direction.   The District partnered with ENGIE, formerly known as OpTerra Energy Services.  As a result of this partnership, a comprehensive energy plan was developed that will generate $14.1 million dollars in net savings for the District over the next 30 years.]]></description>
