Magnolia Virtual Academy Independent Study Program Notification Letter

During the 2020-2021 school year, an Executive Order issued by the Governor allowed school districts to offer virtual learning. That Executive Order expired on June 30, 2021. Last month on July 9, 2021, Governor Newsom signed into law AB 130, which requires districts to inform families of their right to enroll their child in an Independent Study program as an alternative to in-person instruction for the 2021/22 school year.

Magnolia School District will be providing an optional Independent Study program for families who are interested for the 2021/22 school year.

The Magnolia Virtual Academy Independent Study program will provide:
• Daily synchronous instruction for students in transitional kindergarten through third grade
• Daily live interaction and weekly synchronous instruction for students in grades four through six

All mandated state assessments and school-assigned assessments are a required part of the program. Social and academic support staff will be available as needed.

Parents choosing the Magnolia Virtual Academy Independent Study program have the right to request a pupil-parent-educator conference meeting before enrollment to review the enrollment process, academic program delivery, specific academic expectations, student support, as well as the withdrawal process.

Please understand that failure to meet the requirements of the Magnolia Virtual Academy Independent Study program will result in the student’s reassignment to in-person instruction in the Magnolia School District. If a seat is not available at the student’s home school, the student will be administratively transferred to another school within the district.
