Two Magnolia School District Schools Receive America’s Healthiest Schools Award

Mattie Lou Maxwell Elementary emphasizes family engagement to help students succeed. The school communicates regularly with parents through emails, phone calls, and messaging apps like ParentSquare. They also hold parent-teacher conferences to discuss student progress. Parents can access platforms like SeeSaw and Google Classroom to check assignments and stay in touch with teachers. The school offers in-person and virtual workshops to provide resources and tips for families to support learning at home.

Esther L. Walter Elementary focuses on similar engagement methods. They use ParentSquare, emails, and phone calls to keep parents informed and involved. Parents can connect to the classroom through SeeSaw and Google Classroom, and the school offers both in-person and virtual workshops to help families stay updated and support their children's education at home.

The Principal of Mattie Lou Maxwell Elementary, Alicia Jackson Weston, shared her pride in the school's family engagement efforts: "We know that strong family-school partnerships lead to better student outcomes. This recognition shows our commitment to working with families to ensure student success."

Esther L. Walter Elementary School Principal, Rudy Aguila, emphasized the value of family involvement: "Families are key partners in our school community. Together, we ensure students are supported both at school and home, creating a strong foundation for success."

Magnolia School District Superintendent, Dr. Frank Donavan, praised both schools: "All schools in the Magnolia School District have full-time Parent Involvement Liaisons and this Award is a testament to the great work they do each and every day. We are proud of Mattie Lou Maxwell and Esther L. Walter Elementary for their leadership in family and community engagement. Their work has created a healthier, stronger community, and we look forward to building on this success. ”

Both schools plan to continue strengthening their family and community engagement with new programs and events. This will help ensure that students continue to thrive academically and personally.

As we celebrate these achievements, Mattie Lou Maxwell Elementary and Esther L. Walter Elementary serve as excellent examples of how family and community involvement can create lasting, positive change in students' lives.
