School Health Services
Magnolia Health Services supports student success by providing daily access to first aid and specialized care some children need in the school setting. They also work with families, staff, healthcare providers and the community to address the physical, mental, emotional, and social health needs of students and them become healthy, successful lifetime learners.
Health Clerks
Health Clerks are unlicensed personnel with training in First Aid, CPR, medication administration, maintenance of student health records, referrals and reports; they provide routine first-aid and assist in screening ill or injured students. They assist with collecting the required immunizations and other student health information. They also monitor student attendance and communicate with parents.
Health Service Technicians (HST)
HSTs are unlicensed personnel with training in First Aid, CPR, medication administration, and Specialized Procedures as needed under the supervision of the credentialed school nurse. They also administer routine first-aid and may support special education classrooms.
District Nurses
School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that requires a registered nurse to have a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in nursing, postgraduate education, and a school nurse credential. All Magnolia nurses are credentialed by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. The role of school nurses is to promote health and safety, provide direct care, offer guidance and supervision to other health staff when students are injured or ill, conduct vision and hearing screenings, and plan the daily management of chronic health conditions in the school setting. School Nurses are also responsible for coordinating student care by communicating with the student’s family, health care providers, and school staff when applicable to the student’s care and well being.
School Readiness Nurses
School Readiness Nurses provide early access to health and developmental screenings so that health concerns are identified and assessed. School Readiness Nurses also assist preschool children and their families with accessing health care services in order to improve learning and behavior. They provide health education to parents, children and preschool staff in order to promote the health and well-being of preschool aged child.
