Attendance Options

The Magnolia School District provides an outstanding educational program designed to meet the needs of our students. Our first priority is to provide for the attendance of students who live within the boundaries of each neighborhood school. Use the button below to find your school.

(BP 5117 / AR 5117)

The District recognizes that parents who reside in one school district may prefer to attend school in another district and that such choices are made for a variety of reasons. Approval of an Interdistrict Transfer request into the District is contingent upon space availability and student and parent compliance with agreement expectancies.

Magnolia School District students residing within any homeschool attendance area shall have first priority to attend their neighborhood school. After all children within each school's attendance area have been accommodated, remaining placement requests will be considered. Students may not be displaced from their home school of attendance because of new intradistrict students.

Application Procedure

Applicants are required to submit an authorized release from their district of residence. The application is considered in light of criteria and available space after providing for district resident students. The Superintendent or designee may approve interdistrict agreements for several reasons, with the following being the most common:

  • Childcare and child care provider within District boundaries.
  • Student's special mental or physical needs.
  • Sibling attending school.
  • Complete a school year when parents/guardians have moved out of the District.
  • Student to remain in a class graduating that year from elementary school.
  • Written evidence that the family will be moving into the District in the immediate future.
  • When the student will be living out of the District only for a year or less.
  • When recommended by the school attendance review board or by the county child welfare.
  • Valid interested in a particular educational program not offered in the district of residence.
  • To provide a change in school environment for reasons of personal and social adjustment.
  • Parents are employed within the boundaries on the school district.

Application window: January  1 -  June 30

Responsibilities of Participation

An interdistrict transfer from another school district into the Magnolia School District is extended as a privilege to the incoming student and the parent/guardian. It is conditional, based on continuing student performance and parental support, as assessed by these important keys for learning and student success:

  • Regular school attendance
  • Punctual arrival at school
  • A positive approach to learning and follow-through on assignments
  • Acceptable behavior
  • Appropriate transportation arrangements (transportation is not provided by the District)

(BP 5116.1 / AR 5116.1)

The Magnolia School District endorses the neighborhood school concept. Homeschool attendance areas are established to optimize the use of existing facilities and permit the most effective use of total District resources. The District recognizes that parents may wish to choose a school of attendance other than the homeschool. Requests for intradistrict transfers may be made for reasons of personal preference, child care providers, preference based on the needs of the family or child, a desire for a special education or family hardship conditions.

Application Procedure

Parents who reside within district boundaries may apply for enrollment in any district school, which is designated to have space using a “Intradistrict Transfer Form”, available at the District Office. Parents are required to enroll at their home schools in case there is not sufficient space at their school of choice. Parents are notified about the status of their request after space is guaranteed for resident students and additional space is determined to be available for transfer students.

Application window: January 1 - June 30

Selection Criteria

Following the placement of all neighborhood school students, the following criteria for student placement are as follows:

  • Students whose residence is not within the school’s attendance boundaries, but who are currently attending the school due to a previously approved assignment or transfer.
  • Students who are siblings of any student currently in attendance.
  • Any intradistrict transfer requested due to a verified hardship situation.
  • All other Magnolia School District Students requesting intradistrict transfers.
  • All non-Magnolia School District students requesting interdistrict transfers.

There may be occasions where parents/guardians who live within the boundaries of the Magnolia School District may have a need or preference to attend schools outside our boundaries. In these cases, the parents must first complete an Interdistrict Attendance Permit. We will review and forward the permit to the district where the parent/guardian wishes to attend or parents may pick up the completed form at the District Office. There is no guarantee that the receiving district will have space and/or will approve the transfer request once we have approved or denied the request to leave this District.

Appeal Process

When a request for a school transfer is denied, a written explanation for the denial will be provided to the parent or guardian. The parent or guardian may initiate an appeal of the intradistrict or interdistrict transfer denial. All appeals shall be made in writing to the Magnolia School District, Human Resources Department at the address below:
